A ribbon was cut to mark the opening of Countdown Queenstown at the Five Mile development in Frankton this morning.

Clutha-Southland MP Todd Barclay, Queenstown Lakes Mayor Vanessa van Uden and store manager Antony Tasker were on hand for the opening ceremony.

Mr Tasker said the store was blessed last week and it had been a ''hive of activity'' as staff worked around the clock to ensure it was ready to open today.

The supermarket is the first store to open at the shopping centre, with five more stores set to open in the next fortnight.
