More than 250 revellers danced the night away at the Rags and Riches fundraising event at the Queenstown Memorial Hall on Saturday.

The party reached new heights when rugby fans joined the festivities from the big screen room upstairs, after watching the All Blacks trounce the Wallabies in a 33-6 Tri-Nations win.

Co-organiser Andrew Holmes said yesterday: "It went up by about two gears instantly.

The dance floor was full all night long.

There wasn't a person in the house who said we could have done better."

Dunedin covers band Girl Friday returned by popular demand as the headline act and more live entertainment was provided by singer-guitarist Tom Maxwell, plus Wakatipu High School bands Talkback Amp, Your Grandma and Mijestic .

"There's a really good suite of talent coming through. It bodes well for the future."

While the amount raised would not be known for another week, Mr Holmes said it was expected to be more than last year's $7000.

Proceeds will go towards the new computer suite at St Josephs School.
