Second place for boutique hotel

Owners of one of Queenstown's most intimate and luxurious hotels are celebrating a successful year on the award-winning front - the latest at the New Zealand Travel Industry Awards on Saturday night.

The Dairy Private Luxury Hotel was awarded second place in the "Best Hotel/Resort in New Zealand" category at a ceremony in Auckland.

First place went to Quickenberry Lodge, near Methven.

The Dairy owners Matt Diack and Paul Cook, who took over the boutique property in April 2011, said they were "thrilled" with the result.

"Since taking over the hotel we've concentrated on providing a unique small private hotel experience to all our guests," Mr Diack said.

"To be recognised for that effort by the judges is a real honour."

Finalists for the awards were selected from entries which businesses submitted in May, and which were then voted on by industry peers.

Those which received the most votes proceeded to the finalist stage, where they were judged by seven highly-regarded judges in the tourism and hospitality industry.
