About 1000 litres of partially-treated sewage spilled into Lake Wakatipu yesterday after a fitting failed during upgrade work on a sewer pipe in Park St.
Queenstown Lakes District Council water services manager Garry McGraw said, in a press release, the polluted area, which borders the Frankton Arm lakefront, was quickly closed off after the spill and disinfected.
"We had it pretty much all cleaned up within a few hours," he said.
"Obviously it is not desirable, but with that relatively small amount we don't expect to have any further issues."
The spill had dispersed quickly into the lake.
Harbourmaster Marty Black, along with the Otago Regional Council and Public Health South, had been informed of the spill.
Mr Black said, when contacted, the spill had happened on land and there had been run-off into the lake.
Earlier this week, the QLDC revealed there had recently been a sharp increase in the number of pollution spills reported in Horne Creek, Queenstown, which runs into Lake Wakatipu, and urged the public for more help in finding the culprits.
