A Queenstown physiotherapist formerly contracted to provide physio services at Lakes District Hospital (LDH) is going out on her own with a team of senior therapists.

With Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora intending to provide its own in-house service, Jodi Currie, who’s operated The Body Mechanics from LDH since 2013, is setting up a separate clinic in Frankton.

Alongside colleagues Kate Campbell and Natalie Haines and experienced newcomer Pip Lane, Currie’s opening The Body Mechanics this coming Monday in Queenstown Health’s former Five Mile clinic.

Then, in a year’s time, it’s likely to relocate to nearby artisan village, Country Lane.

Providing a full range of physio services, including chronic pain management, the clinic will also have ACC contracts for both hand therapy and maternal birthing injuries — the latter is Campbell’s area of expertise.

Currie says they’re aiming to provide an integrated service — "we all understand, with our years of experience, there is a lot to a patient’s picture beyond just their objective presentation, so we want to spend time to get to know people".

She stresses she has no problem with LDH taking its physio services in-house — "honestly, it was the right decision".
