Into the swing of Christmas

Festive cheer was evident in Wanaka this week as Christmas decorations were strung on a large pine tree near the entrance to the resort.

Contractors John Weatherall and Kris Waghorn spent most of the day decorating the tree, located where Ardmore St meets Lakeside Drive.

Blustery winds could not stop the pair's operation to brighten the resort, but the height of the tree caused some initial problems, Mr Weatherall said.

"Our cherry picker is fully extended and we've had a bit of trouble getting the topmost star attached."

The decorations are sponsored each Christmas by the Queenstown Lakes District Council.
