Rental agreements for two vehicles driven by Indian tourists were revoked within the space of an hour yesterday after police received reports of erratic driving on the Crown Range Rd near Queenstown.
Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka, of Queenstown police, said police intercepted the vehicles between 5.30pm and 6.30pm after they were seen stopping on the road for no apparent reason, crossing the centreline and driving too slowly.
Officers spoke to the male drivers, who blamed fog and difficulty understanding the vehicles' GPS systems.
After following the vehicles to check their driving, police pulled them over again.
The drivers were not charged, but the vehicles were accompanied to the rental company's depot in Frankton.
Their driving was ''inconsiderate'', Snr Sgt Enoka said.
''It was a real lack of understanding of our driving rules.''
