With it looking more unlikely by the day The Remarkables will be able to open as scheduled on Saturday, NZSki staff have taken to performing snow dances in the hopes of attracting enough snow to get the southern ski fields open.
Coronet Peak was due to open on June 4, but it still on hold, Mt Hutt was to have opened on Saturday but it is also on hold and a decision will be made tomorrow about The Remarkables opening date.
NZSki chief executive, who led Friday afternoon's snow dance, says he has been performing nightly snow dances with his 8-year-old daughter Olivia, but the weather forecast is "a moving feast".
A westerly front bringing snow was forecast tonight, but there was a possibility it would not reach Queenstown and temperatures are forecast to increase this week, which will keep it too warm to make snow.
