Violinists invited

The global call for entries to the 2013 Michael Hill International Violin Competition in Queenstown has gone out to violin teachers, artist managers, soloists, associates and the finest 300 music schools.

The biennial competition returns to Queenstown and Auckland on May 31 and runs until June 8.

The selection panel will listen to all performances, submitted via digital cloud-based platform for the first time, by November 30.

Semifinalists will be announced and arrive in Queenstown on May 27.

New Zealander Dr Robin Congreve will chair the jury, which includes Helene Pohl (New Zealand), Dene Olding (Australia) and Dmitry Sitkovetsky (United Kingdom). First prize is $40,000, a CD recording contract, concert tour and professional development.
