The buzz is already building at the Gibbston winery which will host the Classic Hits Winery Tour for the first time in the event's seven-year history next year.

Organisers announced this week Fat Freddy's Drop will share the bill with solo artists Anika Moa, Boh Runga and Hollie Smith in their new collaboration, and the Adults, John Toogood (Shihad), Julia Deans (Fur Patrol) and Shayne Carter (Straitjacket Fits, Dimmer).

The tour will play 17 shows nationwide including the new venue for Central Otago, at Waitiri Creek, on February 19.

"The calibre of the people is pretty good and we're very excited," Waitiri Creek Winery manager Jason Moss said.

"It's good for Gibbston. It's always been over to Cromwell, so bringing it closer to Queenstown is by far a better move. Cromwell can still come over and it opens up the Queenstown market."

Chris Faiumu, also known as DJ Fitchie, said he and fellow Freddy's could not wait to hit the road in February.

"Freddy's will be celebrating the release of our new album Blackbird and I'm sure the audiences will enjoy the energy in our performances.

"To tour New Zealand outside of the main centres is a rare opportunity and we won't be taking it lightly.

"The venues that we are playing are an amazing environment to hear our music. And this year's line-up is fantastic - edgy and dynamic. It's a great way to kick off the year."

Early bird tickets at $65 go on sale from November 5 to November 30. Full price tickets at $75 go on sale from December 1. One child under the age of 12 will be free when accompanied by one adult ticket holder.
