Motorcyclists in the Wanaka area have been checking their bikes this week in preparation for a ride to support St John Ambulance Services.

Wanaka motorcycle enthusiasts Rod Bowler and Mark Dick have combined to organise the first Four Lakes Rally, which will take riders around four of Central Otago's lakes.

The pair have also secured the support of Honda, which will bring 10 of its latest motorcycle models to Wanaka to participate in the charity rally.

Mr Bowler said rally participants would travel to lakes Hawea, Dunstan, Hayes, and Wanaka.

Participants would stop at five locations and collect playing cards in accordance with standard "poker motorbike rallies".

The rider with the best poker hand at the last rally stop would win a prize.

The pair had already received many expressions of interest and hoped a large convoy of motorbikes would turn heads on the highways.

The rally leaves from a Wanaka bar, the Local, at noon tomorrow.
