One of the world's best-known caddies will host a "caddy clinic'' at next month's 2016 New Zealand Open, being held near Arrowtown.

New Zealander Steve Williams, known for caddying for golfing greats Peter Thomson, Greg Norman, Raymond Floyd, Tiger Woods and Adam Scott, will host the one-hour clinic on March 9 for all caddies taking part in the tournament.

Williams will caddy for an amateur player in round one of the Pro-Am and said he was looking forward to his second year "on the bag'' for an amateur.

"It's great to return to Queenstown for this fantastic tournament with its outstanding courses and a very appreciative gallery.

"Last year's caddy clinic was a huge success and I'm looking forward to helping the caddies perform to the best of their abilities and have a lot of fun, too.''

More than 288 caddies are required for this year's tournament, featuring 144 professional players who will tee off at The Hills and Millbrook Resort from March 10 to 13.

More than 120 of the caddies will be sourced from around New Zealand by tournament caddy master Andrew Whiley.

"Caddies that take part in the Open, and especially those who attend Steve's clinic, will not only have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity but they'll be setting themselves in good stead ... to pursue a career in caddying,'' Mr Whiley said.
