Work already under way to encourage Chinese tourists

Holiday parks are in a bid to encourage more Chinese tourists to take road trips, following comments made by Tourism New Zealand chief executive Kevin Bowler in Queenstown last month.

Mr Bowler told delegates at the Holiday Parks Association of New Zealand conference and trade exhibition Chinese visitors needed to be convinced the style of travel was safe.

Association chief executive Fergus Brown said China was the country's fastest-growing visitor source but was "not familiar with the independent self-drive style of travel".

The association was working with Chinese travel agents to remedy this, and park owners were being offered cultural awareness training.
