‘Beaten by the better team’

The Wakatipu Premiers will be determined to right the ship when they play Matakanui Combined under lights in Omakau tomorrow after suffering their first loss of the season.

They lost 21-12 to Cromwell last Saturday — their first home loss to that side for four years.

"I think we were beaten by a better team," coach Tom Cunningham says.

"They came really up front, and we didn’t adapt our game plan how we wanted to.

"I had five props out, so I was down to whatever we could find behind the sofa sort of thing, but the [replacement] boys we did have out there did really, really well.

"The boys are pretty down, but I think it’s really good to realise you’re not invincible and you’re just like everyone else and we need to turn up every week."
