Tobin Priestley, 13, of Christchurch, gives Spiderman a run for his money during the 2025 Climbing New Zealand U15 Lead National Championships in Queenstown on Saturday.

More than 40 young climbers from all over New Zealand congregated in the resort, vying for honours in the Climbing New Zealand (CNZ) lead, top rope and boulder categories, for U11, U13 and U15.

Held over two days, athletes were put through their paces on specially designed courses at Frankton’s Basecamp Adventures climbing centre, where they each had four qualifying climbs, with a time limit of six minutes per climb.

Instead of finals, aggregate scoring across the four climbs determined the national champions.
