Another section release this year

A second release of sections at Queenstown’s newest subdivision is expected before the end of the year.

The first 100 lots at Hanley’s Farm, north of Jacks Point, sold out at its first sales day on Saturday.

David Wightman, chief executive of Melbourne-based developer RCL Group, said the next release in the 1750-lot subdivision would happen ‘‘sooner rather than later’’, but he wanted to ensure sections could be delivered without delay.

‘‘It’s important to release something that can be delivered quickly rather than just getting a sale for the sake of a sale and making your customer wait years and years and years.’’

Ground work could begin as soon as next month, subject to weather, and first stage titles would be delivered in 15 to 18 months.

Demand had exceeded his expectations, Mr Wightman said.

‘‘It was a big release and we expected it to be well received, but it’s also the first release in a project that’s taken a long time to come to the market. It’s been quite a journey, so there’s always that nervous anticipation.’’

Lot sizes ranged from under 400sq m to about 750sq m, and prices were in the ‘‘low $200s to the high $200s’’ range.

Prospective purchasers registered their interest by paying a $2000 refundable deposit at an open day on June 18.

Although many people had missed out, they would be at the front of the queue for future stages, he said.

The sales day was originally set down for July 9, but postponed because of what the company described at the time as ‘‘unresolved planning matters’’.

Mr Wightman said that issue had been ‘‘well and truly resolved’’.

Although the plan change approving the development, known as Plan Change 44, has been appealed to the Environment Court, the first stage was not affected because it came under the Jacks Point resort zone approval.
