The enduring hits of supergroup Fleetwood Mac will be celebrated during a sold-out show at Arrowtown’s Athenaeum Hall this Saturday.

Tribute band The Fleetwoods are annual visitors to these parts and they pack 28 songs into their three-hour show.

The group’s guitarist and vocalist Tom Irvine — who has his own band playing originals when he’s not playing Mac — says "we are all fans, there’s something special in their songs, it’s hard to put your finger on it at times".

"It’s misleading to think their music is simple, the feel and the rhythm section and the three different singers make it interesting and compelling.

"We try to play respectful and honest renditions, but we don’t parody them, we don’t dress in their well-known looks.

"Most of our audience know the songs inside out, and often get loose and have a good singalong."

The Fleetwoods have two female singers who share the role of Stevie Nicks.

For Arrowtown, it’ll be Milly Tabak, a respected country singer and, according to Irvine, "a great performer who makes our job easy".

Tania Hiskins is a whizz on the keyboard, as was Christine McVie.

Irvine says she ties in all the songs and holds the band together.

Matt Shanks is on bass, and Chris Dawson drums.

All the big Fleetwood Mac hits are on the set list, plus some of Peter Green’s early blues-influenced material.
