Scenic owns the Heartland Hotel and Scenic Suites on the other side of the road.
The Presbyterian Church, which had used St Andrew’s as its house of worship from 1968 until it was decommissioned in October, put the site up for sale early this year.
Allied Media understands it sold for about $13 million, which will enable the purchase of land for a new church in Frankton.
Following the sale, property committee member Tim Buchanan said "we are pleased with the price as it will enable the purchase of land for a new church".
Scenic Hotel Group owner Lani Hagaman says she had never imagined buying a church, but when the site came to market "it was an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity".
She said they loved the location, which offered spectacular views, while the site — at the apex of Coronation Dr and Stanley St, on two levels — was unique.
"We are excited with the initial design concepts working these angles and levels to create a landmark building on what we think is a prominent gateway site to the town centre."
