Lawrence man and 'Gemma' win trial champs

Lawrence triallist Roger Tweed claimed a South Island title in the straight hunt atthe South Island and New Zealand sheepdog trial championships at Alpha Burn Station, near Wanaka, yesterday.

Mr Tweed and Gemma scored 98.5 points to win the event, with North Island competitors David Stuart (Gus) and Tim Hunter (Angel) second and third respectively.

Hakataramea Valley farmer Aaron Bell and Molly were sixth and Dave Vaughan and Earl, from Hindon, were seventh.

Kerry Kilmister and Pulse, from Tinui, won the South Island title in the zigzag hunt with 98.75 points, with Steve Kerr and Bully (Mackenzie) second and Mark Loye and Troupe third.

Robbie Calder, from Lauder Station, was fourth with Hood.

The run-off for the New Zealand zigzag hunt championship will be held at 11am today, with the straight hunt run-off about 2pm.
