The original timber floor of St Peter's Parish Centre, next door to St Peter's Anglican Church, is showing signs of wear and tear, its tongue-and-groove joints splintering and posing a risk to children's and dance groups.
The hall seats about 100 people and is used almost every day of the week.
The Rt Rev Dr David Coles said on Friday the repair would be in accordance with heritage guidelines as the hall was listed by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust as a category two building.
The floor will have to be sanded and resurfaced with polyurethane.
The work will cost about $6500 and the Central Lakes Trust will be approached for a grant.
