About to set out on the Queenstown Park Station Fun Ride yesterday are Sarah Fletcher (centre) with her children (from left) Joey (6), Alba (8), Sonny (2) and Evie Craig (10), all of Queenstown.

They were among about 1000 mountain bikers who took the once-a-year free opportunity to ride the riverside trail across the deer and sheep farm, which is owned by the Porter family.

Starting from Boyd Rd near the Kingston highway, participants could either ride 9km to a picnic spot beside the Kawarau River, then return, or ride 13.5km one way to the Chard Farm winery.
