Stolen cars found on 4WD track

Two stolen cars have been recovered near the Crown Range, police say.

Sergeant Jon Bisset, of Queenstown, told the Otago Daily Times both vehicles were reported stolen earlier this month, one from Frankton and one from Wanaka.

The abandoned cars  were spotted on a 4WD track, just off the Crown Range, by a member of the public yesterday morning.

Sgt Bisset confirmed police attended the scene but he was unsure when the cars were abandoned.

Both vehicles were stolen from streets in Queenstown and Wanaka  and he said it was a timely reminder for residents to ensure cars were locked and parked in a secure location.

"People should be cautious."

"If any member of the public noticed unusual behaviour around the top of the Crown Range in the last couple of weeks they should contact police."

Investigations are  continuing  and the owners of the vehicles have been alerted to the discovery.
