The South Island’s first three-person adventure swing has opened at the AJ Hackett Kawarau Bungy Centre near Gibbston.

The company’s co-founder, Henry van Asch, and Destination Queenstown chief executive Mat Woods were the first riders of the Kawarau Swing at its launch yesterday.

The swing, which offers single, tandem or three-person rides to anyone from the age of 8, launches from a dedicated platform on the Kawarau Bridge viewing deck before sending riders swinging 43m above the Kawarau River.

Mr Van Asch said it was perfect for those wanting to try an adrenaline activity, but were not ready for a bungy jump.

"It will enhance Queenstown’s adventure tourism offering. We expect it to be very popular with visiting families, couples and groups."

The launch was the culmination of three years of planning, design and engineering, as well as testing, peer reviews and independent inspections, he said. — Allied Media
