Police want businesses to contact them about a flood of tagging in central Queenstown early yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka said an 18-year-old Queenstown student was arrested in the afternoon and charged with wilful damage, after about 80 tags were written in red marker around the CBD.

Police used CCTV footage to identify the alleged offender, who was caught wearing the same clothing.

Snr Sgt Enoka suspected many businesses would have cleaned the tags from their businesses and police wanted to hear from them about cleaning costs, for possible reparation, and to provide photos.

The 18-year-old was was expected to appear in court on Monday.

Queenstown police can be contacted on (03) 441-1600.
