A free new Queenstown fun run is aimed especially at beginners and even those who don’t like running.

The HOKA Queenstown Run Club leaves 7.30am every Tuesday from the new HOKA running shoe store in Beach St and consists of a flat 4km run around the edge of the Gardens then back.

"It’s welcome for everyone at your pace, whether you’re advanced or you’re a beginner or you’ve never run before," store manager Marcus Vautier says.

This week’s run attracted 18 runners, with the frontrunners guided by Vautier — temporarily on a bike "due to my injuries" — and the tail-enders shepherded by co-manager Briony Williams.

Vautier: "We do it more for the social side of things, it’s all about getting out and getting active, but we want to do it to meet people and bring people in through fitness."

Runners meet in the store afterwards for drinks and nibbles "and a nice social catch-up", Williams says.

Meanwhile, she and Vautier recently donated more than 20 pairs of shoes to Sport Central for its ‘share your gear’ initiative.
