The Kids’ Salmon Fishing Day was held by Central South Island Fish & Game on Saturday at Loch Cameron, Twizel.
Event co-ordinator Nikki Dellaway said the event was a great success and the weather could not have been better.
"We were stoked to hold the Kids’ Salmon Fishing Day for another year."
Eighty-seven youngsters aged between 4 and 11 years and their families attended and gave salmon fishing a go in a relaxed and encouraging environment.
There was a great catch rate this year, more than 100 salmon being landed during the event.
"A massive thank you goes out to Mount Cook Alpine Salmon, the major supporter of the event, their generosity is what makes the day possible."
As part of Mount Cook Alpine Salmon’s philosophy of giving back to the community, more than 300 salmon were given for the event.
"We are also very grateful to Mackenzie Supply Services for the complimentary transport of the fish", Nikki said.
Shaw’s Hardware, Southern Alps Outdoors, Hunting and Fishing Timaru, Meridian Energy and Kilwell Sports provided spot prizes. Every child went home with a fishing-related prize, such as a lure, tackle box or fishing shop voucher.
There are still many salmon available to all sports fishing licence holders in Loch Cameron, and Fish & Game is encouraging experienced anglers to take a child or junior angler out to Loch Cameron over the next few weeks.
