A project in the Catlins has received a $7000 boost.

Catlins Coast Inc is working with Tourism Catlins to create information panels at Florence Hill. Six information panels will be created and will rest on a purpose-built rock wall.

The area is a prominent hill between Papatowai and Tautuku in the Catlins, with views of rainforests, Tautuku Island and other landmarks.

The project was granted $6358 from the NZ Lotteries Environment and Heritage fund, and $1000 from the Mataura Licensing Trust.

Tourism Catlins projects co-ordinator Kim Dodds said the group was "extremely delighted" with the grants.

"This project is vital for the Catlins - the stories needed to be told of this spot."

The total project cost is $11,858 and Catlins Coast Inc was in the process of receiving notification from other funders and sponsors.

The content and design of the project is at the consultation stage, and panels were expected to be in place by April next year.

The Lottery Environment and Heritage fund makes grants to non-profit organisations to foster the conservation, preservation and promotion of New Zealand's natural, physical and cultural heritage.
