Six pupils have attained their Duke of Edinburgh gold award, while another two have almost finished the last of their projects for the top honour.
Deputy principal John Douglas was thrilled, as it represented the largest number of pupils to receive the honour at once.
The school has about 50 pupils in various stages of the programme which offers a bronze, silver and gold award.
Mr Douglas said the award encouraged participants from all backgrounds to gain confidence and skills in a wide variety of areas which would stand them in good stead after they left school.
Duke of Edinburgh awards involve volunteering, getting involved in physical activity, developing practical and social skills and planning and carrying out an expedition.
