Burnouts disturb

Police are concerned about drivers disturbing residents in Clinton by doing burnouts at different times of the day.

Sergeant Martin Bull, of Balclutha, said there had been reports of Clinton residents doing skids at various times of the day.

He said they were ''driving around being silly''.

He asked for people who had seen this sort of behaviour to report it to police.

''It gives us the teeth to do something about it.''

If they knew the people involved as well, then police would appreciate being told.

An incident in Clinton last week also prompted police to arrest and detain a 17-year-old for threatening behaviour.

Sgt Bull said the male suspect was in custody for allegedly threatening to kill and charges relating to possession of an axe.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 14 about 6pm.

Sgt Bull said the victim of the alleged incident was more annoyed by it than anything.

The suspect was expected to appear in the Dunedin District Court on April 11.
