The South Otago Theatrical Society's production of the BBC classic show ''Are You Being Served?'' opens in Balclutha tonight.

Set in the ladies' and gentlemen's clothing departments of Grace Brothers, a fictional London department store, ''Are You Being Served?'' was a British sitcom broadcast from 1972 to 1985.

The play was written by the show's creators, Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft, in association with The Play Bureau Ltd.

South Otago Theatrical Society president Sarah Van Asperen said the show, directed by Balclutha woman Selena Aitken-Boyle, promised ‘‘lots of laughs''.

Four performances had already sold out, leaving fewer than 60 tickets for sale over the remaining four shows. The production opens tonight, and runs until next Saturday at the theatrical society's clubrooms in George St, Balclutha.
