Contest features glowing fashions

While Wellington has its wearable arts show, Balclutha is staging its ‘‘Vision and Styles Awards'' event to encourage fashion creativity.

For the third year, Positively Clutha Women (PCW) has run the event within their Rural Women's Week.

This year, the event got a makeover and was rebranded Clutha District Week for Women.

Organisers adopted a recycling theme for 2008. Chairwoman Robyn Gardner said garments should feature some recycled material.

The show will be staged at the Balclutha War Memorial Hall on May 23, and entries close on Friday.

The night will feature a fluorescent section using ultraviolet light for glowing effects on paraded catwalk garments.

The event is jointly organised by PCW and the South Otago Theatrical Society.

Mrs Gardner said this combination should ensure the awards will feature top costumes, theatre, sound and lighting.

Dancers from No Mean Feet will perform as part of the programme.

Entrants can create something simple to be judged on visual appeal on the night or enter the supreme award, to be judged on workmanship, creativity and visual appearance, with a first prize of $1000.

Tickets, entry forms and information are available from Development House, Balclutha.
