Council proceeds with subdivision

Economic hard times have not put the brakes on the Clutha District Council's plans for a new subdivision in north Balclutha.

A 17ha site, formerly a council-owned forestry block, was cleared this time last year and tidied up, with the plan to consider subdividing it into a mixture of small residential sections and larger lifestyle blocks.

The block overlooks Balclutha.

Minutes from the council's property sub-committee meeting from last month show members discussed the site's future development and whether development of the area should be put on hold because of the economic climate or if there was real interest from the community in buying the sections.

The committee resolved council staff proceed with developing plans for the site and canvass interest in its lifestyle blocks.

These minutes and that recommendation will go before Thursday's council's district assets committee for a final decision.
