Fears show may be axed

The South Otago Theatrical Society may have to abandon plans for its major production later this year if it cannot find a choreographer soon.

It hopes to stage the musical Me and My Girl in August. Most of the major production roles have been filled, but no-one has offered to organise and plan the dance numbers.

Show production manager Lorraine McLean said a meeting on Wednesday would decide what steps would be taken if a suitable person could not be found.

Cancelling the show was an option, but she hoped it would not come to that.

Dunedin-based director Geoff Smith will direct the show. Long-time society member Rodd Pearson is the stage manager and Irene Mosley will be the musical director.

Mrs McLean said the role of choreographer was a challenging one, but it would be ideal for someone wanting to tackle a production with supportive members.

Anyone interested is asked to contact Mrs McLean on (03) 418-2884 during work hours.

Rehearsals are due to start in April, and the show would be staged at the Balclutha War Memorial Hall in August.

Me and My Girl is based on the goings on of English high society in the 1930s.
