The Milton Fire Brigade was called to the Fulton Hogan yard in Scott St shortly before 10am to a "well involved fire", volunteer firefighter Robbie Phillips said.
A fire investigator and police were at the scene yesterday.
Senior Sergeant Richard Whitmore, of Balclutha, said the fire was being treated as suspicious, as the transportable single-bedroom home had not been occupied for two years and had no electricity.
Anyone who might have seen any suspicious activity in the area yesterday morning was urged to contact their local police station.
