It is less than six months until the festive season and it has been confirmed Balclutha will have a new permanent artificial Christmas tree in time for the celebrations this year.
Big River Promotions, the Clutha District Council and contractors Fulton Hogan have been working together on the project which would get rid of the job of finding a real tree, hauling it to the site in front of the Clutha Information Centre, planting it, providing security, decorating it, and then cleaning up in the new year.
Balclutha community co-ordinator Irene Mosley said the artificial tree would be made by the same company that manufactured Dunedin's tree.
