Balclutha's swimming pool will be closed for most of this week after strong winds tore off a section of its roof at the weekend.
District swimming pool supervisor Holly Ramsay said repairs to the roof, which had a 5m hole, started yesterday but the pool would probably remain shut until at least Friday.
At this stage, the Clutha District Council planned to open the pool on Friday from 10am to 4pm.
The gym inside the pool building would be open as usual this week, reopening as usual at 6am today.
"We apologise for any inconvenience to pool users but obviously the pool has to remain closed due to health and safety reasons while repairs are carried out," Miss Ramsay said.
It is not the first time strong gusts have forced the council to temporarily close the pool in recent years.
