Kaitangata Skate Park Development Group chairman Dallas Storer cut the ribbon at the opening of the park on Sunday.

The 300sq m park in Exmouth St took two years to build.

Mr Storer said about 100 local people attended the opening and about 60 children enjoyed playing in the skate park in the afternoon.

''I think it's turned out better than what a lot of the community thought it would,'' he said.

The skate park is beside the Kaitangata BMX track and jump park.

The development group raised nearly $85,000 of the $100,000 budget with support from the Clutha District Council and the Otago Community Trust.
