A police spokesman said emergency services were called to the incident near Crichton Rd, about 1pm yesterday and the road was partially blocked for about 90 minutes while crews extracted people and cleared debris.
A Hato Hone St John spokeswoman said two people received moderate injuries and another three received minor injuries.
Two Otago Southland Rescue Helicopters took two moderately injured patients and two others with minor injuries to Dunedin Hospital.
A third person with minor injuries was treated at the scene, she said.
A serious crash investigation did not take place, but police investigations into the cause of the incident were continuing, the spokesman said.
