More than 100 people enjoyed a journey to five different countries and the cuisine of each without leaving Balclutha on Sunday night.

The Otago Daily Times-sponsored Intrepid Journeys was hosted by Intrepid Travel manager and traveller Alison Mead at the South Otago Town and Country Club.

They were given samples of food from the five countries - India, Spain, Cambodia, China and Tanzania - before Ms Mead gave a photographic presentation of her visits to each nation.

The gathering was the last official event of the 2008 Clutha District Week for Women.

Ms Mead gave the audience a view of each country through her words and photographs.

She focused on the people and cultures, constantly using her catchphrase that "life is an adventure".

Her talk included a look at the "madness and bedlam" of parts of India compared to the tranquil coastal areas.
