From rags to riches, the Nga Whanau o Tokomairiro netball team will be able to step out on to the court in style in its upgraded uniform.

The social Milton-based team was awarded a much-needed uniform upgrade, including dresses, bibs, gear bags and balls as part of the ANZ Netball Dream Delivery programme.

Team captain Te Anna Phillips said the team's old uniforms were outdated and worn out.

''We were holding our bibs together with pins,'' she said.

The old dresses were all the same small size and the team was embarrassed to wear them.

With the new dresses, the team was excited about looking and feeling ''a million dollars on court'', Miss Phillips said.

Now the team would be able to play without having to pull their tops back down when they were running.

Miss Phillips believed it would give the team confidence.

She applied to ANZ Dream Delivery for help so the team could feel proud when competing.

''When I got told that we won, I was over the moon.''

The team was presented with the new gear on Saturday at the Cross Recreation Centre by ANZ branch manager Stephanie Duffy.

She said it gave her great pleasure to present the uniforms.

ANZ head of sponsorship Sue McGregor said ANZ was thrilled to give the players from Nga Whanau o Tokomairiro Team their ''much needed uniform upgrade'' and confidence boost on the court.

''We know sometimes all you need is just that little bit of extra help to achieve your dreams.''

The Dream Delivery programme is open to netball players from across the country to help them achieve their ''sporting dreams''.
