Valuations slow in arriving

Some Clutha ratepayers have yet to receive their three-yearly valuations, even though they were posted before Christmas.

Property owners have until tomorrow to lodge any objections regarding their new valuations.

Clutha District Council corporate services manager Alan Dickson said council staff had received "an unusually high number" of complaints from property owners yet to receive their valuations.

"We have not been able to determine why so many valuation notices have not been delivered."

He urged anyone yet to receive their valuation to either contact the council on (03) 419-0200 or Quotable Value NZ on 0800-786-822 as soon as possible so notices could be re-sent.

Although objections closed tomorrow, Mr Dickson said the submission period would be extended for those whose valuations arrived late.

Clutha's latest overall valuations outstripped other areas in the South, including Queenstown and Southland.

Rural properties led the charge with a 60% increase in capital value and a 69% rise in land value.

The valuations took effect from September 1 last year and Quotable Value NZ staff have acknowledged the market has changed dramatically.
