The country's most famous "westie" is coming to Balclutha.

Actress Robyn Malcolm, who plays Cheryl West in the television series Outrageous Fortune will be guest speaker at the closing dinner of this year's Clutha District Week for Women in May.

Organisers Positively Clutha Women announced what they call a coup in a statement yesterday. Co-ordinator Nyree Dickie said Malcolm would speak at the Rosebank Lodge on May 22.

The 44-year-old actress was last week named TV Guide's "Best on the Box" sexiest woman on television for the second consecutive year.

Mrs Dickie said Malcolm was one of New Zealand's best-loved performers, having appeared in some of this country's most popular television shows; she had also toured nationally with several successful theatre productions.

Mrs Dickie said Malcolm had the reputation of being a highly entertaining speaker, drawing on her life experiences and career spanning 20 years.

Tickets for the closing dinner and other Week for Women events go on sale at the end of April.
