South Otago women Raylene Smith, Loretta McSkimming, Judy Houliston and Fern Washington looked over old photos and newspaper cuttings from their time working at the Chateau Village in Balclutha.

The group is organising a reunion for staff of the retirement home, now called Clutha Views Lifecare.

Mrs McSkimming, who spent almost 20 years working at the village, said she looked forward to catching up with former staff members who had moved to other areas.

There were so many stories to be told, she said.

''We want to write a book.''

Mrs Washington said the reunion would be good as the staff and residents were what made the work worth it.

''To be fair, the work was really hard but it was the people we worked with that actually made it.''

The group was trying to reach out and find as many people as possible as some only worked there for ''brief stints'' and locating everyone would be difficult.

They planned on holding the reunion at Queen's Birthday weekend.
