It comes after fire crews spent much of yesterday fighting vegetation fires which sprang up across Otago and Southland, in hot and windy conditions.
A Fenz spokesman said fires were reported in Dacre-Morton Mains, Makarewa, Greenhills, Otahuti, Kawarau Gorge, Mataura, Balclutha, Palmerston and two additional fires near Oamaru.
About 1pm, multiple crews were called to a paddock fire near Balclutha, about 200m north, off Johnston Rd.
Two helicopters and 12 fire appliances were called to the scene.
The choppers collected water from the nearby Clutha River to dump on the blaze.
A witness said the fire appeared to come from a stack of wood and stifling warmth and fierce winds fanned the flames, creating a huge cloud of smoke.
Fenz advised people impacted by the smoke to close their windows and doors, and stay inside where possible.
The blaze was brought under control about 1.45pm and two rural fire appliances remained on site to dampen down hotspots.
A section of State Highway 96 near Mataura was closed and power was knocked out in the area when a forestry block caught fire.
Emergency services were called to the block about 2.10pm and nine appliances attended, along with two helicopters and a digger.
The fire was around 300m by 200m in size at its height, but was contained late yesterday afternoon.
Power was reinstated late last night, but SH96 remained closed over night while a small crew monitored the fire.
More firefighters will return this morning to dampen down hotspots.
Southland fire crews also battled vegetation fires at Dacre-Morton Mains, Makarewa, Greenhills, and Otahuti, in Southland.
They were all extinguished by the end of yesterday.
Further north a fire burnt 25ha of pine trees close to Goodwood, near Palmerston.
The fire was reported about 2.35pm and 10 fire appliances and four helicopters responded.
Goodwood Rd resident Tom Sutherland said the fire was spreading quickly and they were keeping a close eye on it, prepared to evacuate if it came too close.

"If they go alight, then it could jump the road to us," Mr Sutherland said at 5pm.
Police closed Goodwood Rd to traffic.
Late last night, a Fenz spokeswoman said there was no risk to structures in the area.
"One crew will remain on the scene overnight, and more crews will return in the morning to continue mopping up."
In Papakaio, near Oamaru, Fenz was called to a trampoline which got blown into powerlines about 2.40pm.
The resulting sparks started a fire in a paddock and four fire crews attended.
The fire was extinguished by about 4pm.
At 2.50pm, Fenz was alerted to an incident where high winds blew three branches of a tree on to two parked cars in Oamaru.
A dog in one of the cars was lucky to escape without injury.
The tree was cut up and both cars were able to leave the scene, the Fenz spokesman said.
In Whitstone, also near Oamaru, two Fenz crews attended a smouldering tree about 3pm, which was extinguished about an hour later.
Back in Southland, three Fenz crews were called to trees on fire in Otahuti, about 4pm.
The crews were still on scene last night, dampening hotspots, with the aid of a digger.
And at 5.30pm, two fire crews were called to another fire at Morton Mains — this time a hedge fire, which was extinguished by about 7.30pm.
A Fenz spokesman said high winds and dry conditions had caused all of the fires to spread quickly.
He urged people not to light any outdoor fires, and check any previous fires or burn-offs from the past few weeks, to ensure they were not in danger of reignition.
"Don’t leave them to smoulder or assume that a fire is completely out just because you can’t see any flames or smoke.
"The whole area should be thoroughly wetted until it is completely cold, and checked again afterwards," he said. — Additional reporting Allied Media
