Brethren worship hall gains consent

Plans are in place to build another place of worship in Gore.

A church hall to be used for church services is to be built on a Charlton Rd site by members of the Exclusive Brethren, trustee Stan Malcolm says.

The project was granted a landuse resource consent by Gore District Council, council planner Keith Hovell said.

The church hall will be 8m by 12m in size and the site will be accessed from Charlton Rd. There would be provision for a 15-vehicle car park, Mr Malcolm said.

While earthworks had started at the site and plans had been drawn up, Mr Malcolm was not sure when construction would start but said while some of the work would be carried out by volunteers, a Gore building contractor would be engaged to carry out the bulk of the work.

Mr Malcolm said overall costs for the project had yet to be confirmed.

The decision to build a church hall was made after an extensive search for a suitable building proved fruitless. ‘‘So we decided to build,'' Mr Malcolm said.

‘‘The hall will be used for church activities during the day on Sundays and during the evening on Mondays, and possibly at other times during the week,'' the consent stated.

The application, which was lodged by Gore man Paul Forrest, also sought permission for a subdivision, which was granted. The Ensign was told Mr Forrest was out of town and was not available for comment yesterday.

The council consent document stated that the subdivision would consist of seven lots ranging in size from 1194sq m to 2083sq m.
Of those, five lots are to be sold for residential purposes, the document stated.
