Drug dealers ordered to forfeit $130,000

Two German nationals convicted of drug dealing in Queenstown have been ordered to forfeit about $130,000 found in their hostel.

A hearing in the High Court at Invercargill was held yesterday to deal with the matter of cash found during a raid of Deco Backpackers in the resort on June 25.

Sven Stephan Harrieder and Justin Christopher Hamilton both admitted drugs charges after they were arrested during the raid.

Police recovered just over $130,000 in cash from the pair.

They also found cannabis in their room with an estimated street value of between $27,000 and $55,000, 10 tabs of LSD, four cellphones and a laptop.

Justice Rachel Dunningham yesterday ordered the cash — which was already with police — be forfeited.

Justice Dunningham said when the pair were sentenced in August the cash was linked to the drugs charges.
