He is tourism, events and community group manager with Venture Southland, an organisation which carries out tourism and economic development work on behalf of three Southland councils.
Since 2009 Mr Capil has been involved with the development of the Around the Mountains Cycle Trail between Kingston and Walter Peak Station, as well as helping identify other possible cycle trails in Southland.
He was nominated by the Southland District Council, Hauraki Rail Trail and the Alps 2 Ocean Trail, Waitaki.
NZCT-Nga Haerenga is a Government-backed project to build a network of cycle trails around New Zealand. The board is responsible for determining the strategic direction, rules, standards and membership fees for the project.
Mr Capil said his election gave Southland a prominent voice at national level and leverage for future decision-making and opportunities on cycle trails.
