A 65-year-old man died following a collision involving a truck and car near Bluff this morning.
The crash happened about 7.20am near the Oyster Factory on Bluff Rd, between Bluff and Invercargill.
Senior Sergeant Craig Brown said it appeared the car collided with the rear of a truck and trailer unit travelling in the same direction.
A male passenger in the car died at the scene, and its driver was taken to Southland Hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
The driver of the truck was shaken but uninjured.
The road was closed about four hours while the scene was examined and the vehicles were removed.
An investigation will continue into the cause of the crash.
Police will not be releasing the name of the deceased until next of kin have been notified.
