One critical after being run over by tractor

A person has been flown to Dunedin Hospital in a critical condition after being run over by a tractor in Southland today.

A police spokeswoman said the incident occurred near Mataura Island about 2pm, however it was not yet clear if it was on a property or a road.

About 2.35pm a rescue helicopter was dispatched from Dunedin to assist the patient.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager Lyn Crosson confirmed crews were assisting police and St John in Mataura Island-Titiroa Rd, Mataura Island.

Three crews from Tokanui, Waimahaka and a medical first responders team from Edendale were sent to the scene.

St John spokesman Gerard Campbell confirmed one patient had been flown to Dunedin Hospital with critical injuries.
