Police officer one of two injured in Gore head-on crash

A police car and another vehicle collided in a head-on crash in Gore this morning where one person with serious injuries was airlifted to Dunedin.

A police spokeswoman said they were called to State Highway 1, near the intersection of Charlton Rd, at 7.15am.

Two cars had collided, and a helicopter had been called, she said.

Police confirmed this evening a police vehicle was involved in the crash.

"The police member suffered minor injuries, the driver of the other vehicle suffered serious injuries and was helicoptered to Dunedin Hospital where they remain."

Police were looking for any witnesses to the crash or anyone who travelled on SH1 near the Charlton Rd intersection between 7am and 7.30am.
